Celebrating Skateboarding Success: Jessica Ready Triumphs in Women's Street Open
Thirteen-year-old skateboard prodigy, Jessica Ready, has clinched victory in the Women’s Street Open category in Australia.
Jessica, an eighth-grade student hailing from Bucklands Beach Intermediate, embarked on a journey to Brisbane last month alongside fellow New Zealand skaters Jess Lord, Yeva Butler, and their mentor, Amber Clyde, representing Skateboarding New Zealand.
The competition took place at Redbank Plains Skatepark during the BMD Eastern Rumble. In an impressive performance on July 29, Jessica Ready secured the top spot in the Women’s Street Open division, amassing a remarkable total of 152.33 points, comfortably winning by an 18.16-point margin.
The event adhered to Olympic judging standards, involving athletes executing three 45-second runs, followed by four best tricks, where the top three scores were counted.
Jessica, supported by sponsors Toy Machine, Nike SB, Cheapskates Khyber Pass, and Irrom Distribution, has a packed schedule ahead. She is set to participate in a skateboarding development camp next month and will also compete at the SBNZ Nationals, which will be held at Alfred Cox Skatepark in Gisborne.
Jessica’s remarkable journey in skateboarding began in 2019, spurred on by her parents’ recognition of her growing interest in the sport. As a gymnast from the tender age of two, she transitioned to skateboarding, and her dedication has been unwavering ever since. She has been an integral part of the East Skate Club since its inception in 2020.
This triumph follows her previous victory in the women’s section of the New Zealand X Air competition just a year ago, highlighting her exceptional talent and commitment to skateboarding.
