The women’s quarter-finals at the 2023 World Skateboarding Pro Tour in San Juan, Argentina, have been determined. Following the qualifying round on May 24, where 27 park skateboarders joined the top five ranked skaters in the world, the stage is now set.
This pro tour event holds significant importance as skateboarders aim to secure their spots for the Paris 2024 Olympics through the accumulation of ranking points.
The qualifying round witnessed impressive performances, with Australian Arisa Trew leading the way, followed by Raicca Oliveira of Brazil and another Australian athlete, Ruby Trew (unrelated). Arisa achieved a notable score of 71.21.
Among those pre-qualified for the quarter-finals, recently-crowned world champion Sky Brown holds the top seed. She is joined by Olympic gold and silver medalists Yosozumi Sakura and Hiraki Kokona, as well as Kusaki Hinano and Bryce Wettstein.
Skaters’ rankings are determined by their Olympic World Skate Ranking (OWSR). During the qualifying round, skaters had two runs, while the quarter-finals onward will consist of the best of three 45-second runs, or until a fall occurs, with only the highest score counted.
San Juan welcomed 179 Olympic hopefuls this week, all vying to accumulate as many ranking points as possible. The men’s qualifying round is scheduled for Thursday, May 25, featuring prominent figures like world champion Jagger Eaton and Olympic gold medalist Keegan Palmer.
